From the Artist, Donald Roy: "I recently finished an interesting project. My son is going to graduate in a couple months from Grand Valley State University with his degree in computer science. He got an internship with a wonderful woman that teaches computer science at U of Colorado and has her own company. She has become a true mentor to him and I wanted to make something as a thank you to her. She is a pilot, has her own Cirrus SR22 which she flies out of Longmont Airport (no tower) and her husband is an air traffic controller at nearby Denver International AirPort.
I made her specific aircraft with her tail number, I made a watercolor of Longmont airport from the air for the bottom of the bottle. I fashioned an old laminated propeller for the neck and made the Denver International AirPort tower for the cork. Inside the control tower I carved out room for a 9 volt battery and ran micro leds to the wingtips and tower, so when the radar dish on top is pushed, the lights come on. On the bottom side is a note from my son the her."
